State officials broke ground Tuesday on the region's fourteenth Wawa location in eighteen months, calling the project 'a cornerstone of Delaware's long-term economic strategy' and 'exactly what this stretch of Route 40 has been missing.'
The board, citing 'traffic flow concerns' and 'a general preference for going right,' voted 4–1 to prohibit left turns within a three-county radius.
"Our customers know what they're getting," said owner Dale Pulaski. "They've always known. That's the point."
The proclamation, issued by the mayor at a ribbon-cutting for a new fudge shop, has been described as 'aspirational' by local boosters.
The senator, who has been looking into it since 2019, expressed cautious optimism that a preliminary review could begin as early as next quarter.
Officials from both locations declined to comment on the arrangement, though a spokesperson noted that 'competition is healthy' and 'hoagies are plentiful.'
Attorneys describe the arrangement as 'standard,' 'efficient,' and 'not something you need to worry about.'
